The critics… most of the critics hated us […] They gave us half a check. They said [pompous voice] “Well these guys don’t know jazz”. Little did they know that we knew all about jazz; we just chose not to do it fot this occasion. The truth is, they just didn’t like the fact that we had all these rhythms they didn’t understand and couldn’t get into. And since they coulnd’t get into it, they’d rather shun it. They stigmatized us with that. Those same critics are giving us five stars now.
